In-vivo confocal microscopy is a non-invasive imaging method that allows the visualization and morphological analysis of the ocular surface and the corneal layers on a cellular level.
In addition, corneal nerves, immune cells and larger microorganisms can be depicted. As image acquisition and interpretation may be challenging, this technique is not easily adopted.
